Solar Birds

479px-Bald_Eagle_Portrait

I was about ready to pull out of my driveway when a black shadow passed over my car. This often happens to me where a bird immediately crosses my path when I get going for the day, so I pulled back into the driveway and looked up to locate the bird who had cast his shadow.

So one bird I saw, definitely was one of my hawks. He spiraled over the road that leads down to the park before disappearing. Than another bird, who I thought was his partner, was spiraling over my close neighbors house. He was joined by another that tried hard to gain altitude with a lot of bird flaps, while the other waited for him.

This puzzled me. I knew we had our hawk pair in the neighborhood. Was this one of their fledging’s? I squinted my eyes and tried to figure it out when they both flew closer to me.

Their wing color was puzzling me as it was black and while the sun can cast the bottom of a hawk body black, when they spiraled I should have seen the tan pattern of their wing tops, and instead I a saw black. Too large for crows and their flight pattern didn’t match a crow.

They came closer again, taking their sweet time in using the thermals. Both had white heads. What…!? You are kidding me! I looked again and no they both had white heads and black bodies.

Goodness. Animal Guides that come and visit me at my house are awesome but I never expected to see a pair of Bald Eagles in my little neighborhood. Powerful!

(Bald Eagles do migrate to Oklahoma in the winter but they generally chose areas where there is water and bluffs – my neighborhood has little of either – they are probably passing through on migration).

Shapeshifting

Last week I had a dream I meant to post; it’s too important not to post it so here it is:

I was standing in the front yard at our house in C__ Missouri. The weather was early fall and I looked up to a blue sky with just a few clouds. Two vultures were spiraling up from the valley in the National Forest and flying slowly above my head in circles.

I looked to my left and a huge vulture was sitting on the hand pump in our herb garden. She spread her wings out wide.. I was wrapped in darkness and then was a vulture spreading its wings.

Husband called my name and I returned to myself. The vulture became a pillar of smoky darkness and disappeared.

Later that week, I told husband I wasn’t sure I was ready for this next change. A call from my closest friend gave me details on how her life will change drastically. Transformation is sometimes impossible to ignore.

Hawk relationships

Going out to the barn to feed, I pass a field where Grumpy Hawk 2 used to hang out. GH2 is most likely a  Red Tail Hawk who is quite a bit darker with a lot of black than most of the RTH’s I see. He is also perpetually plumped up and fluffed with tufts of white sticking out of his body, making him look like he is always molting.

I noticed a few months back a sleeker, perhaps younger, Red Tail Hawk had shown up on his turf. The second RTH was slimmer in body style, maybe slightly smaller but hard to tell. Each time I saw them they were not sitting close, and GH2 seemed a bit put out.

So I couldn’t figure out their relationship. Were they now mated? Their relationship didn’t seem that close. I’ve seen hawks sit so close to each other that they looked like they had one body. These two were always far, far apart.

Was it an invasion of the original Hawk’s turf and he just doesn’t have the strength to kick out the interloper? I can’t think that field would provide enough food for two!

The sleek RTH version is often flying over and lowers himself (herself) down into a bank of trees so I’m thinking a nest might be down there.

Well, if they are mated, GH2 is just “putting up with it” until the fledglings are gone.

I slowly passed by him (no cars behind me) and as I poked my head out the window, he turned and looked down at me. Most hawks do get irritated at being looked at. Not sure why that is since they are at the top of their food chain but they do dislike the Paparazzi. Pretty much go a mind your own beeswax, death glare.

Life has been full of little difficulties and many irritations. Whatever, has latched onto us thinks it can distract and irritate us so much that we won’t stay focused. Hm. We shall see about that.

Earth Magic Cards: Standing Firm and Flexible Relationships

Now that things have calmed down a bit, I pulled three of the Earth Magic Oracle Cards. I commonly pull three cards, to be read together (not as past-present-future).

harmony_strength_shapeshifting

While I have had others read my cards, I actually prefer to read them myself. I also don’t do readings every day or even once a week. Just when the mood strikes me and particularly when I feel I need guidance because I am stuck on a problem and need a fresh perspective.

The three cards are Music (Harmony), Mountain (Strength) and Clouds (Shapechanging). One reason I like reading three cards together is it gives enough information to be helpful but is not overwhelming.

To bring Harmony in our Mother-Daughter relationship, I need to focus on deep strength and confidence in what I’m doing and let daughter (as well as the relationship) continue to change and be flexible as she matures. The Mountain also is indicative that I have the strength needed against the challenges we will face during this transitory time.

These cards also speak of the duality of Earth and Air. Grounding and Spirit. Fixed reality and the Insubstantial substance of smoke and dreams.

Further thoughts on The Good Offense

Because of the lack of money we had let a lot of things go on the house. Things like routine repairs such as the house exterior needing repairs (which meant we were living with squirrels in the attic and eventually a raccoon), the exterior painting, termite control, a cracked window, new insulation in the attic, and replacing the hot water heater, AC units, heater and appliances such as dishwasher and refrigerator.

The money flow was slowly getting better (especially with the bankruptcy unexpectedly ending two years sooner than expected) but these were all big ticket repairs – over $1,000 and most of them in the $2-5,000 range.

In December, Grenwinae is likely to get a bonus but that could only stretch so far. If I went back to work for The Man, that would help with little expenses but again, wouldn’t replace a $5600 AC and Heat unit needed downstairs.

While all of this was on my mind, I also started thinking about the protection and abundance magick, I had done for our home and family. Yet, it seemed to me, and this idea continued to grow, that no spells or wishing for a better day was really going to happen when the very foundation of our house was falling apart! Even with magick, I couldn’t toss away common sense!

About a month ago, Grewinae sat down with a  family member and asked for help. She agreed and combined with our own money we started making a plan to get things done. As soon as the check cleared the bank – the water heater and AC downstairs failed, the upstairs AC stopped working, and the more reliable of the two cars had a horrible noise. It was not a moment too soon! It was almost as if everything had been holding its breath.

And this is how my Owl-sense works. I just feel a need to “do something” and if I follow through on listening to its intuitive siren call, then we sidestep disaster (such as demanding Grenwinae job hunt and two weeks after he got the new job, his old company was swallowed up in a hostile takeover and his boss fired).

We bought a new AC and heater for downstairs. We had enough to make a down payment and monthly payments will get it paid off in two years. The car took over $2,000 to get it back into good working order so afterwards I was able to make several out of town trips.

We were able to get the Hot Water Tank replaced (and the new water is already so much softer and is making the towels smell sweet). We replaced the dishwasher (and now it is so quiet and the dishes come out better with less effort).

Externally the largest project was getting the house repaired and repainted. During that process the house painter was stung by a wasp and discovered a potential bee issue. Called the bee guy and turns out we caught the problem just in time – no hive yet, they were on a scouting expedition looking for a new home.

We are surrounded by neighbors who would have turned us into the homeowner association on the paint and exterior. Literally, painting the house is putting up a huge banner deflecting that negativity. I do not underestimate that power of “changing old clothes for new to confuse evil.”

Not all is done. We still need a new refrigerator to replace a 21 year old unit. We need a termite treatment and the windows still need fixing. The work on the family room has just begun.

Then in the midst of all this last week, we were offered a car. If the car happens, then that means the December bonus can be used on the house (we had planned on the bonus replacing the least reliable of the two cars) and again, we will be further along on that goal of selling in 3 years (this would be the summer daughter transfers from community college to a university to complete her degree).

I see the clear connection to new and improved to old and failing apart when it comes to change and reformation. All in all, this is a fresh start and something we need to weave into our work for protection, abundance and prosperity.

We have been very lucky and fortunate, especially in having someone who can help us, yet I think we are both rather gobsmacked and reeling from all the changes that have just happened.

New Moon Night – dealing with a sly sneaky bastard

I won’t go into the entirety of what we did. I don’t think magick should be laid out that clearly. Besides what would work or feel right to us may not be for you. OTOH, how will you ever know anything unless you learn? Unless someone pulls back a veil and shows you what they did?

I am not a believer in demons or even really ghosts. But I do believe in energy as I have seen what it does and I have felt it. Whatever, was lingering about, whether made from our own unconscious, from someone who meant us ill, or some depressed, nullifying energy vampire monster floating around looking for a good feed, it needed to be dealt with.

It need to be handed its walking papers. It needed a kick in the balls.

We agreed that the main purpose was to move energy – to dispel and break it, so the New Moon was a good moon time period as well as the affiliation with Cancer (family and home). The black pillar candle was etched with protective symbols, it was joined by a candle of white (purity, innocence, light itself) and a silver candle (the halfway world, balance).

A protective, “breaking bad” loose incense was made. Branches were cut with permission from our resident pine tree, joined with backyard birch deadwood to be the base of our fire.

After casting a circle in basil salt, we began our custom chant to aid our daughter. Near the beginning a swarm of insects attached themselves to my upper body, and a grasshopper (an insect I particularly hate) was going to hop onto me until Grenwinae gently tossed him outside our circle.

As Grenwinae chanted, the fire struggled. When certain words were said, a wind from nowhere picked up and tried to smother the fire. We kept fueling it with more and more matches. Finally it settled and started gaining ground.

When certain words were said, it was as if a huge dome came over our heads and the area about the fire was cast into a deeper darkness. This happened at least three times.

Do I think we “killed it?” Not yet, we did get its attention but it has a lot of tentacles deeply embedded. The message I felt strongly was that it did not want to let go. It is also very subtle in its work. Very subtle and nefarious.

Grenwinae felt lighter the next day. I just felt exhausted. The next day we were both plagued with a lot of irritating nothings that keep pecking at us. Okay, I see what you are trying there: destroy our focus, keep us busy with nothings, wear us down, let us detach from our purpose. Fuck you!

When daughter came home that afternoon from grandma’s weeklong visit she went off inline skating and found a Hawk’s feather which she brought back to me. If you just came to this blog you won’t know why this is significant, but Hawk is one of my most vocal Animal Guides and I had just meditated to him regarding help for this issue.

It is a beginning.

We have a lot more work to do.

But yes, it’s a beginning.

New Moon Incense – Dispelling, Purification and Breaking Bad

I put together a loose incense for my New Moon work for daughter. It’s purpose was to break this foulness that seems to have attached itself to her in the forms of depression (yes she is being clinically treated).

How do I compose these ingredients? Why do I choose this over that? Most times I like to limit my ingredients to less than 5. There is no reason to dump the entire kitchen sink into the recipe, however, as you will see, yeah, I’m not fucking around.

First, determine the action you want and what is working against you. We felt there was some sort of nebulous, dark energy attachment that needed to be strongly dealt with.

Second, mentally think out the personal dynamic and what you feel about the materials you have chosen. This is where intuition plays a part; the more you work with the materials you use (in my case organic herbs, spices, resins and plants), the more comfortable and “right” you will feel about your choices. For example, my choice of a Willow bark and St. Johns Wort was specific to this situation.

Thirdly, how will you use it. This compound was to be tossed on a fire of pine and birch (both protective trees) so it didn’t need to be bound into a cone form. I wanted something composed of burnable materials like roots and flowers, as well as resins which smoked.

Root and Floral elements:

Galangal Root (Low John) – energy, strength, courage, hex breaking, burn to remove ill spells and break curses.

Burdock Root – protection, healing, wards off negativity, holds sacred space.

St. Johns Wort – Banishes, protects against black witchcraft, burn to banish demons and spirits. Linked to helping depression medically.

Willow Bark – Guards against negativity, brings in the spirit of the moon, ending pain. I use a willow wand in my work and felt this would benefit our mother-daughter connection.

Resins:

Myrrh – consecration, healing, enhances any magickal working.

Frankincense – enables the divine to manifest. Consecration, protection, purification.

Copal – love and purification, sets sacred space, allows guides and guidance to happen.

Dragons Blood – strong banishing powers, use with any spell to increase potency.

Spices:

Cloves – banishing, protection against evil forces,

Cumin – burn with Frankincense to increase Frankincense’s ability.

Black Pepper – burn to dispel bad vibrations, being a spice is linked to increasing energy of a working and to casting off.

the best defense, a good offense

A couple of months back, I took daughter out of town to have some tests done. Things have been going on a downward emotional spiral for her for several years and we have tried several things to help her but it is a slow climb upward.

After the first trip, we were driving back on the highway and had just pulled up on the entrance ramp. She had fallen asleep already. As I accelerated, a huge black shadow, the mass size of a horse came barreling at us from the right side of the road. It was like a monstrous black cloud mass that had a galloping movement such as a dog or wolf.

In a blink it was gone. Had I imagined it?

*~*~*~*

Two days ago, I saw a deer along the woodside drive that I take to the horses. I pulled over to watch and a large black shadow flew over the car. I looked up and saw a Blue Heron. Afterwards I saw a lot of hawks. Clearly, I had a message in my inbox.

Yesterday, I spent several hours asking for guidance and meditation on this situation. I deliberately selected and set aside the Deer and Crane from the Druid Animal Oracle Deck. I asked for cards to give further clarification and pulled from the Earth Oracle deck, two cards:

daughter_card_reading_druid_animal_oracle_earth_magic_oracle

Deer – Mother love, patience, gentleness is expanded with Dreamtime: Creation. I had already been thinking, and this card combination affirmed, that I would need to create a new relationship with Daughter. An environment of loving acceptance, gentleness and understanding instead of guilt, anger, frustration and/or criticism.

*~*~*~*

Generally, I don’t worry to much about personal protection. I’ve set some things up and I renew them but anything would be crazy if it wanted to take me on. I will post further clarification about this in a later post.

OTOH, my daughter is vulnerable, far too much. Last night, two hours after I did the above,  around 6 p.m., my daughter was involved in a car accident. She, and my MIL, are okay but it lends urgency to my thinking something needs to be done on an energy-spiritual level. Something doesn’t like being noticed.

Tonight we will be doing a special working just for her; I don’t expect it to resolve her issues but if there is anything after her, Grenwinae and I can let it know it has been put on notice. The New Moon in Cancer is a perfect time!

Financial Spread with the Earth Magic Oracle Cards by Steven Farmer

After all the decision making and stress of that Friday, we were immediately hit with challenges: the AC units went out (we have two as we have a two story house), the hot water heater went bust, and the reliable car failed. Luckily, we had obtained money from a family member as a gift (combined with our own finances) to make some big ticket item repairs (i.e. the AC and Heater unit was a total of $5100, the car $1600, repairing and painting the house $2,000, and replacing the hot water heater $1,000).

During all this destruction and chaos, where the earth was being tilled and turned anew from earthquakes, I had bought a reading online and here is the resulting spread in regards to our finances:

prairie_card_reading2

I won’t be totally sharing what she sent me but wanted to point out a few things that seemed significant to me. I also saw some things differently because of course I am close to the situation.

Position 1 (Current situation), Card Fog Reversed. Could this be any more obvious? We are finally going to see our way. Things will become clearer. The road visible. We were lost and now we can be found.

Position 2 (Where to focus/steps to take), Card Tree. The week before I had just had my new business logo finished for my Etsy shop – which is a tree. A tree has to have a network of roots below with the same size as the canopy above in order to survive and be strong. It is nature oriented and I’ve also seen Grenwinae as a Tree when it comes to spiritual matters.

The tree is also my favorite symbol for “As above, so Below” which I think works well thematically with the Ceremony and Initiation cards. These three cards are about synchronization and alignment – bringing heart, mind and spirit together in a balanced way – something I have not felt for years, if perhaps decades.

Position 3 (forces working against you), Card Waterfall reversed. Things are not going to flow easily. We are not going to be showered with money 😉 This is part of rabbit energy: either it comes in a torrent or dries up to nothing and has always been a force against us making headway financially.

This card, read with the river (outcome card) shows that I need to work on slow and steady flow instead of leaps and bounds.

Position 4 (forces working for you) Ceremony. This, and the next card, meant more to me than the reader. I had already noticed that when I didn’t think through a handmade project for the shop, it just didn’t work out. If I rushed the creative process, than the result didn’t work out on many levels – for me or the customer.

The business is more than making a widget; it fulfills something deep for me and I need to honor it. When I don’t honor that, things get messed up. I need to stay true to the reason we started this store.

Position 5 (Help) Card Initiation with an Eagle (see my Eagle post). Again, Mind needs to be linked with Heart and Spirit. Neglect the higher calling that this endeavor requires and we will not succeed. Honor it and we will be blessed with success.

Eagle has definitely been making himself known. It is time to connect to a higher spiritual understanding.

Position 6 (Outcome), Card River. The river on the card is deep, wide and slow but steady on it’s flow. What we need to work towards and will obtain will be gained when we walk a True Path.

I liked this reading so much that I immediately bought a deck for myself!
